The big bull trout we caught last week was worth seeing again so I published another photo of it.
The river is not rising as we espected. I haven’t fished for a week but it is probably still fishable. When the weather warms up we are going to see huge water in the Flathead basin. Our place is on the river, and I am mildly concerned about the potential for a flood. The snowpack in our area mountains is at an all-time high, and it is still accumulating! I see the mountains in Glacier got a lot of snow just in the last couple of days. I can’t wait for July!
Hey, thanks for stopping by and welcome to Northern Rockies Outfitters blog. My name is Rich Birdsell, your fly fishing guide and owner of Northern Rockies Outfitters™, Montana’s premiere fishing guide service.
The Flathead River is one of Montana’s most beautiful rivers that drains Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The Main stem of the River is just Minutes from Whitefish and Kalispell and that is where we are located.
Glacier National Park and the surrounding area of NW Montana are known for spectacular mountains, glaciers, breathtaking beauty and magnificent trout streams. Westslope Cutthroat trout are a treasure that thrives under the surface of some of the crystal clear lakes and streams, and if you want to catch these feisty trout on dry flies, this river system is perfect.
If you are visiting Glacier National Park this year for the Centennial, I invite you to contact me and let me guide you on the fishing adventure of a lifetime. Spend one day on the Flathead River casting for trout and you’ll be hooked forever!
